Week 1 over

I’ve decided that it might help me to journal my experience of quitting gluten, that way I can mark and monitor progess and maybe be helpful to other future gluten quitters. Don’t worry, I don’t intend to do this often, probably once a week for a few weeks, however many weeks it takes before it’s worked! Anyway stick with me, once I recover I’ll be able to post sketches much more often!

I’ve made it past week one, the first couple of days were very bouncy. After that, everything went a bit crappy. Energy is fluctuating madly. On the highs, I feel very alive and optimistic, but also incessantly hungry! tend to be hyperactive and snappy. Have been told off twice for shouting angrily in public. On the lows, I’m suddenly extremely fatigued out of nowhere, and have to lie down. This is usually accompanied with back pain, depression, loss of appetite, impatience and constant crying. The last couple of days, my lovely acne from the old days has made a comeback. A consistent symptom of withdrawal throughout has been the ‘foggy brain’. I’ve sometimes written sentences and looked at them the next day in absolute horror. I’m surprised to find the irritability is probably the worst symptom, because it makes me so impatient with all the other symptoms and exaggerates my suffering. If I try to power through the fatigue, I fail to push on through, and simply get the shakes. I have to wait until strength decides to return to my body. Have a positive thought to get me through this: I’ve convinced myself that I’ll be well on the way to reparation when university starts, and that I’ll have new found energy and well-being with which to face my classes, and that I will startle myself at how much better I will retain information and stay alert when health is good. Here’s hoping.
